3rd February, 10.30 - 11.30 am. U3A IT Group - Stonehouse Court Hotel, Stonehouse
Getting Older - Keeping Active Taster Day - we will be demonstrating the use of tablets (computer, not medical), and how they can help you get online, even if you have arthritis or other motor skill problems, on the 16th October from 10 am. Venue: Grange View, Grove Park Road, Uplands, Stroud GL5 1GR.
Comment - a very enjoyable and successful day attended by many extremely enthusiastic grownups! Lots of great people talking about their services, including a podiatrist, exercise experts like armchair badminton coach and chairobics instructor, Village Agents and SCT. Good number of people very interested in buying themselves a tablet and learning how to use them - all round their houses, as opposed to being trapped in their one "computer" room. Congratulations to Pamela Tawse and her team of wonderful helpers on running such an excellent day at Grange View.
Independent Living Roadshows - We will be taking part at the Stroud Event in the Subscription Rooms on the 15th October. We will be demonstrating how our IT Training services help older people, especially those who are isolated and living outside towns, to access online services. Our equipment is specially adaptable for those who have impaired motor skills, eg Parkinsons or Arthritis. Come along to find out what services and support are available for older people in Gloucestershire.
Comment - sadly virtually no-one knew this event was happening and only 16 people attended which was a great shame for those waiting to spread the news of the services they offer. Note to the organisers - please start your marketing and press campaign much earlier and much wider in terms of coverage, local radio, newspapers etc. Your website did not make the details easy to find either and and the Sub Rooms were not asked to add the details onto their website either.
This series of drop-in exhibitions around Gloucestershire during October has been organised by the county council for older people, their families and carers to find out about the support that is available from us, partners and community and voluntary organisations. We will also be launching a new publication entitled 'Gloucestershire Independent Living Guide'. There will be a wide range of help, advice and information available from planning for the future to staying safe and well at home; from safer driving for older motorists to extra care housing and free NHS health checks. Refreshments will also be available.
