Smart phones are as you might guess smart! They are phones but also very powerful hand held computers. Produced by all the big names, Apple, Samsung, Huawei, Microsoft, HTC, LG etc, they are huge in popularity and enable people to be in touch with each other, socially or for business, with more options available than ever before. All these phones are reviewed in Tech Radar, Which and other magazines. There are a lot of good phones out there - depending on your budget and preferred operating system - Android, Google, Windows or Apple iOS. Training is available on all operating systems if you feel a bit tied up in knots!
Hundreds of thousands of Apps (applications/programmes) are available on phones. You can run all your Facebook, What'sApp, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Pinterest, FaceTime, Skype and other social networking accounts. You can take excellent photos, videos (and edit them) and use the inbuilt GPS Maps applications including Google Maps. (Move over Tom Tom and Garmin.) You can listen to all the music that you want, keep your contacts and diary handy, send and receive email with attachments, send text messages, read books, shop, make reminder and action lists, play games, watch live and catch up TV, download films, listen to the radio, update your website, and search the Internet wherever there is a decent signal available. You can write a document, create a spreadsheet or a presentation and sync your phone with your other technology so your information is available simultaneously on all your devices and download important business documents using Dropbox or iCloud. One of the best uses is enabling your phone as a portable hotspot - creating your own wireless network. You can use your laptop or tablet online anywhere once you have them "tethered" (linked) together. The list is endless.

The video below was shot using an iPhone 6. It was originally livestreamed via Facebook and later uploaded to YouTube. Edited on an iMac.
